I dyed my husband's grey and white hair black (his natural color) with Clairol's loving ca

I like it because it still shows grey, no root problem, and looks "not dyed." However, as it wears off, the white and grey hair has a slight lavender hue. What causes that and what can I do to prevent it.

It has nothing to do with hormones. It has everything to do with the color's base tone. The Grey (or White) hair has no color of it's own, so it is taking the true base tone of the color you are using. Some colors have a violet or lavender tone, some have an ash tone....etc. Does the color's name have the words "cool" or "ash" in it?

You could try a color with a "natural" or "warm". Those colors have a brown or golden base.

But, as always, I recommend seeing a stylist.

I was told that grey or silver hair should be shampooed with something called Silver.

That prevents the lavendar or blue tint.

May have been better to use Just For Men on his hair. Oddly, they say hormones can affect the way color comes out. Partly why they say it is not good to dye a pregnant woman's hair. Anyway, the color could be being affected by the lack of hormones...next time try Just for Men or a hair dye created for men's hair.

I have hair that's going gray and I use Just For Men. Mine is dark brown and I like the way my hair looks after using it. I have to work it in well and get the underside of the hair shafts as well as the top, then it looks very natural. I keep things a little gray here and there (temples and a bit on the sideburns) to look the age I want to look.

Anyway, I suggest Just For Men. I do mine every three weeks. I do not get any off color.

recolor more often or go to a salon and get it done with real colorant. the otc stuff is not as strong, i dont care what anyone says.
